A year ago yesterday I really thought my life was going to fall apart.
What started out as a simple missed church day due to a sick baby girl, took a turn for the worst.
Even now as I look back on that day, one thing still enrages me. Nobody ever shared with me what to do when your child has a seizure. I mean our pediatrician sounded like it’s a normal thing that can happen if your child’s fever drops or spikes fast. Who knew this?
I didn’t.
When you leave the hospital after giving birth to your bundle of joy, there is no “What to Expect When Your Child Has a Seizure” book.
Nope.
And the LAST thing you want to be thinking when your child is convulsing on the floor is, “What do I do?” That is not a good feeling. So this may sound silly to you, but I feel like I need to share. If you ever notice your child having a seizure there are a few things you should do.
Mainly when I think about all that transpired on August 14, 2011, I am SO incredibly thankful that our sweet Paisley is here, safe, and healthy.

this gives me chills! I am so glad everything turned out okay. I really don’t think us as moms will ever be ready or prepared for scary situations when it comes to our babies!
Thanks for sharing!! xo
Safe and absolutely adorable! It’s so scary when things like that happen. I had to call 911 when the girls were around 3 months old because Tillie had reflux and choked on it and then stopped breathing! I was out of my mind scared and it was the first time I ever had to cal 911.
This is such an informed post. I wish I had all this information when our sweet macie had a seizure on valentines day this year. Scariest day/moment ever! And you’re right, the doctors do kind of act like it’s not a big deal. I was like seriously, I’m about to die watching her do this and there’s nothing I can do! Praying you (and I) never have to deal with all that again!!
Oh and she’s too cute with all that hair 🙂
Oh Holy Scariness! I am so glad that she is ok! I totally understand how something like that is permanently etched in your mind! Thank the Lord for his faithfulness!
I know the feeling! It is so scary, my daughter had so many since she was 8 months old – but the worst was when she was lying on the backseat of the car, having a seizure .. I stopped on the freeway and did what I was suppose to (only one car stopped to ask if everything was ok). Fever is a bigger threat than what the doctors share with us!
Linda
this is actually really helpful! I’m glad you wrote it.
Also, I know i’ve said it a hundred times but Paisley is soooo pretty!!!
oh! How scary! Both of my nieces have Epilepsy but they have ‘absent’ seizures. Instead of convulsing they just freeze up. Whatever they are doing is they just stop, stare off into space, and then start screaming. It was so terrifying at first because we had NO idea what was going on. after a few month we were told they had epilepsy. Praise be to God that your daughter is happy and healthy !
