This post full of tips about fevers and medication is sponsored by PediaCare® but all opinions are my own.
It’s that time of year again: Cold and Flu season. I swear, if I could just lock my kids up at home and us never leave the house until all the germs are gone I would. But then I remember that I’d be locked up at home with all my kids for quite some time, and if that’s the case we all might not survive, ha! So I think I’ll take my chances out in the cold, cruel world of cold and flu infested germs. But because I know one if not all five of the children are bound to get sick, I’m glad PediaCare is there to help.
Fevers, they are the worst. You know you’ll be in for a long night, days of illness, or even worse a hospital stay when you encounter them. They are like the beckon indicating something is wrong in the body. I hate ’em. ha! But it’s important to not be afraid of a fever and to educate yourself on how to help your little one when he or she gets one.
Need to Know
**Always use a thermometer to determine your child’s temperature. Never your hand to their forehead.**
A fever is classified as:
- Rectal temperature of 100.4° or above
- Oral temperature of 100° or above
- Armpit temperature of 99° or above
In general, a fever cannot hurt your little one, but there are some times when it’s best to call a doctor:
- A child under 90 days of age has any fever
- A child over 90 days of age has a fever over 104°
- A child’s fever lasts longer than 3 days
Sometimes children’s fevers can jump or drop too fast which may cause your child to have a seizure. Though they can be fairly common they are also rarely harmful. That doesn’t mean they don’t scare the ever-living daylights out of you! Actually, 2 years ago Paisley came down with a little virus. When her fever spiked, she had a febrile seizure which marked the worst day of my life entirely. In case that ever happens to your baby, God forbid, you can see how to deal with the situation here. But since that day, we try to keep her fevers under control anytime she gets sick. That’s not ever a moment I want to repeat if I can help it!

That’s why I think the PediaCare® Single Dose Fever Reducer/Pain Reliever is genius. It offers us parents an over-the-counter solution that is easy, effective, and ensures that children are given an accurate dose of acetaminophen every time. It’s the only pre-measured acetaminophen product packaged in child-resistant squeezable packets. No fuss, no mess. Just open the packet and give it to your little one. Because let’s be honest, the last thing you want to be doing when your child is screaming, is hunting down medicine, pouring/measuring it out to just the right amount, and THEN giving it to him/her. No you want it now. And we CAN have it now; look at these packets. So easy to use and awesome to take for on the go…just in case.

So bring on the cold and flu season, I’ll be ready!
