Being a parent can get awfully crazy at times and include some nasty, icky moments that I’d just not like to remember, ha! But when you add in the fact that i have FIVE children, those icky moments come almost once a day! Whether, it’s snot down a face (maybe even shot over onto MY face…aahhh!), on some clothes or even furniture; or vomit on…well any of those places just listed above, or any other bodily fluid going A.W.O.L., being a parent is quite a messy job! Are there any parents out there?! Yes, well I’m sure there are plenty reading this just shaking there heading in agreement. This is one tough haz-mat suit job we have!
But, last week I encountered a new level of icky for our household. And it involved this room.
Oh yes, you just wait for it.
After putting Pippa down for a nap, I headed to the kitchen to start cleaning the mound of dishes taking over my sink and counters. (This is real talk y’all, a family of 7 can pile up these dishes FAST!) This had to be taken care of before it threatened to multiply claiming every ounce of surface in the kitchen, forcing us to move. Because there is a distinct point, when you weigh your options and decide if you should just cut your losses, not clean the mess, and just move. This could not happen here, we needed to stand against the rabid cookware, and claim our territory telling them who was boss. So while that battle was being waged in the kitchen my sweet, innocent older daughters were left to dress up, dance around, and be precious little imaginative beauties. Or so I thought.
It wasn’t but five minutes later when I heard a scream and turned to see Paisley running my direction. She was shouting something in what I’m certain was another language, because I sure as heck couldn’t understand. Finally when she reached me I told her to calm down and slowly tell me what was going on. As she stood there eager to share the news, posed ready to pivot and run back to where she came, she panted,
“Nelope’s getting her hair wet in the toilet!”
“Say what?! Why is she doing that?! Why didn’t you stop her?!”
“I don’t know. But she is, she really is!”
Dropping the scrub brush with Mr. Miyagi speed, I darted to the bathroom. I will never forget what I saw as I walked into the bathroom. Penelope stood there, half clothed, sporting a look on her face like, “What? Ain’t nothing goin’ on here.”, and water dripping from her hair, down her forehead, and onto her lips. Which she then licked. My gag reflexes kicked into overdrive as I scrambled to undress her, start bath water and clean up this mess.
“What did you do? Why were you playing in the toilet? Stop licking the toilet water on your face!”
“I was just playing.”
As I bathed her, I explained that we don’t play with or IN toilets, we only use them to go potty in. Hence WHY we don’t play with them. She just casually shrugged her shoulders and said okay. Then after a sufficient, overly detailed explanation on why what she did was oh-so-nasty, I let her play in the tub while I wiped down and disinfected everything in that bathroom. EVERYTHING.
So yeah, needless to say we have quite a few icky moments going on over at our house, ha! But the beauty of it is, I can look back and laugh on it now. And Clorox feels the same way! I mean really, best parts of our lives are those everyday moments (though I’m not hoping to relive that moment) – true, spontaneous and imperfect. Unfortunately some of these moments are downright icky, but, Clorox is here to help you laugh through the mess.
