Somehow in the midst of being married for almost 8 years and shoving 4 almost 5 kids in during that time I have become the mominator. You know, half woman, half mother programmed robot. She sports snot stained three day old clothing, disheveled hair, but manages to hold the house together while keeping the children alive all day. This my friends is no small feat. But with the program changes into mominator, you often experience what is known as the “feel like a woman” glitch. Your life becomes more about the kids and your general survival than taking care of yourself and feeling pretty. You know it’s bad when your husband asks, “It’s been a rough day, huh?!” when he sees you at the end of the day. Granted, I’d say that to myself too if I saw what I looked like.
Yes my friends, this is the awful truth.
When showering and wearing clean clothing seems to be optional, there is no sense in believing I’d be doing my hair and applying make up. This kind of puts me in a funk. I don’t feel pretty, confident, or really like a woman at all. And I’m sure my husband would like to see a hygienic, quaffed woman once in awhile, ha! But when I dusted off my make up bag, I was surprised at how long I had these items… isn’t that unsanitary?! They needed to be thrown out and I needed some fun, new, easy items back in that bag STAT. The shopping part scared me though, especially when the aisle of Wal-Mart look like this.
So many brands, colors, treatments, oh my! What if I chose the wrong item, or there was a better one I had no idea about. And honestly, what is the bare minimum I can do to add a little oo-la-la to my day. Thankfully while I was at Wal-Mart the other day I was pleasantly surprised to an expert beauty consultant there to answer all my questions. Even the ones I really didn’t even know I needed to ask, ha! She was the best and I really learned a lot.
Olay and Covergirl
First we talked about skin care and it’s importance. Basically you need to prep the canvas before you paint it, ha! We looked over all the Olay products and picked the perfect skin care for me. Foaming Face Wash (Combination/Oily) – I tend to have oily skin and still deal with break outs, yuck! So the gentle foaming cleanser was perfect. It was tough enough to remove all the dirt and oil, but at the same time it wouldn’t be tough on my skin every day. Pro-X Advanced Cleansing system – This was designed by a team of dermatologists and Olay. It not only cleanses your skin, but it helps remove dead cells to reveal the lighter, brighter skin underneath. My beauty consultant shared that I should use this every other day. Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream – As I’m getting a older I want to stop and prevent wrinkles. What woman doesn’t?! The micro-sculpting cream goes deep into your skin to deliver the anti-aging ingredients for quicker results. It also hydrates, smoothes, and brightens your skin while increasing it’s elasticity.
Then once the basics were over we started talking about the fun stuff, color! I like the idea of make up, how it looks on me and the way it makes me feel, but frankly I don’t have much time to devote to it. Wish I did, however I don’t. With that in mind my beauty consultant showed me a few color options that were speedy and great!
Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream – This moisturizer offers 5 skin-perfecting benefits: refreshes, brightens, evens tone, hydrates, and smooths. Plus it’s tinted and has SPF 15 in it. Because I don’t want my make up to feel heavy, my consultant suggested I use this as my foundation. Works wonderfully! Lashblast Fusion Mascara – Lashes are HUGE for me. It could be because mine are SO lacking, but a good mascara is what I’ll hunt for. While Covergirl has a few different volumizing options, I also needed something that could make them look longer. This is where the Lashblast Fusion mascara steps in. It not only thickens your lashes, but it also lengthens them. Outlast Smoothwear All Day lipcolor – This stuff is straight up genius! When talking to my consultant, I shared with her how I love lip color but never seem to wear it because I have to wait and apply it when I arrive at my desired destination. With all the color and glossy options my hair always seems to get stuck on my lipstick and then smeared on my face. This look is not so flattering, ha! With the Outlast Smoothwear All Day Lipcolor, you apply the color once in the morning, let it dry for 60 seconds and add the moisturizing top coat as needed during the day. That sucker stays on ALL day…FOR REAL! Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss – Though this is not an everyday beauty need, I saw the new fun colors and HAD to get some. While I was draw to all the Spring shades, the expert beauty consultant shared that the nail gloss was also great because it lasts for 7 days and has a built in top coat for a shellac type look! What was that?! One less step for me to do, I’ll take it!
After chatting with my consultant for a bit I felt confident and ready to head home and try out my goodies for myself. My husband was also very impressed with my new found knowledge and the thought of me actually USING what I had learned. The timing was spot on because Sam and I had a weekend away planned!
Date Night
Before heading out for a marriage conference at our church and night out a local Bed and Breakfast, I wanted to put my new beauty products to good use! I mean, I’d be without my kids and with my husband for a whole weekend, I had to look good. And I was ready!
Because of being pregnant with baby number 5, I have inherited some luscious lips. They are a nice side effect to a puffy swollen face, but we’ll go with it! So I was beyond excited to highlight them with my new Outlast Smoothwear Lipcolor.
I actually had to run out the door before finishing my look, but I had a plan. Since I needed to wait for Sam to get off of work outside his office, I just whipped out my Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss and painted my nails. Had to look good for my man!
Woohoo! I was ready and looking hot for my hubby. Off we went for our fun, relaxing weekend away and I didn’t feel like a mominator at all! HALLELUJAH! Instead I felt like a new woman, and I know my hubby liked it too! He commented on how my face was glowing, ha! We enjoyed our time strengthening our marriage. The best part was capping off our weekend at the B&B where we ate some fantastic food, and rested. Whew, the resting part was just amazing! I’m pretty sure we spent most of Saturday afternoon sitting on a swing with a nice breeze, just talking. When you have small children, it’s hard to have time to chat. Our weekend was just the babymoon we needed before baby number 5 comes in 2 months!
So what are 2 beauty products that you LOVE and make you feel like a woman?!

For me nothing says “dress up” like eyeliner and mascara – I just use carmex on my lips to get some shine. But yeah. I have some eyeliner from Clinique and Mascara from…the grocery store. I could use a beauty consultant haha
Oh yes! I completely agree with you! Mascara changes everything!
Love the Mominator! And you look fabulous. My Beauty Scoop consultant told me about a hair product that has transformed my life! It’s awesome! Other than that I am pretty low maintenance. 🙂
What was the product?!? My hair needs some help too! ha!
I have three liquid base, mascara and lip gloss as long as I have those I am good.
Oh yes, those are musts!!
I am going to have to try out the BB cream. I need something like that.
I love it! So light weight and moisturizing, which I tend to skip on usually because I have oily skin. But this doesn’t make me feel greasy at all!
Oooooh, I love it! I know that look very well being the mom of 4 myself. 🙂
I’m so glad you were able to have a nice time out with the hubs, and you look gorgeous, mama!
Thanks! SO you know how rare those moments are, right?!
