There are times that I would SWEAR my life is on candid camera. Almost as if at any minute someone will jump out from behind the bushes and tell me I’ve been punk’d, or something of the sorts. Or maybe I’m the female edition of the Truman show. The whole world is watching as this crazy mother deals with all the crap that comes her way. I kid you not. It was just last week that we had the sweet tea incident, and I thought things couldn’t get any weirder in this hood. Boy was I wrong. Never underestimate the power of the ghetto.
It was just a normal Sunday afternoon. The kids were down for a nap after a fun lunch with some family friends. Sam and I were watching some Arrested Development in the living room…isn’t that show hilarious and addicting?!?! It was all the makings of a perfect day. Maybe thats what did it. Anytime I think we are going to have a normal day SOMETHING happens. You know, television shows need drama, hence why I think I am secretly being filmed.
All of the sudden we heard a “BUMP, BUMP, BUMP!“. Though not certain to the origins of this noise, Sam thought the boys were playing in their room and I figured a car just hit some bumps in the lovely pot-holed Texas roads. Well we both were wrong. It wasn’t the pot-holes or the kids, but when Sam stepped outside to find out he quickly beckoned me to come. And nothing prepared us for what we were about to see.
Y’all we had some new lawn ornaments. Hooray! (sarcasm) I stood right outside my door in total shock. What just happened? How did this truck just end up in my yard? Praise the Lord it stopped when it did and didn’t crash into our house. Passing cars stopped, neighbors came out of their houses, and people flooded our yard to see what went on. Everyone on the phone to 911 calling for help, and boy did it seem like forever for them to arrive. I am not exaggerating when I say I hear sirens pass our house at least once a week whether it be cops, ambulance, or fire truck. They are around our neighborhood ALL. THE. TIME. I never know where they are going or what they are needed for, but today I had a front row seat to the action. And I didn’t like it.
The poor driver and passenger were stuck in their truck with no way out. So we all just stood there wanting to help, to fix all of this mess, but we ended up staring at them like they were an exhibit at the zoo. The driver, clearly in pain, was clutching his chest and moaning. All I could think was, “Lord don’t let him have a heart attack right now.” I heard the voice from a guy walking out and around the other truck. “Is everyone okay? I didn’t see the stop sign man, I’m sorry.” Though his initial concern seemed sincere, it became clear all this guy cared about was the cigarette he was sucking down until the cops came.
As the flood of cops, ambulance, and fire trucks came I ran back inside to make sure the kids were okay and told them to not look out the window. The whole ordeal took about two hours. There were 4 people involved in the wreck; two left without any medical needs, one was carted away on a stretcher for immediate help, and the last was arrested for driving under the influence. Our tree and lawn bare scars of the day’s events, and we are now “that” house that had the truck in their yard. But at least it wasn’t one up on blocks just for the fun of it, holla!
Sam and I have played this scenario over and over in our heads, and we just don’t understand how it all really happened. I mean we KNOW how it happened, we heard it from the horses’ mouths, but it all just seems so crazy! Can you imagine driving down the road one minute and the next parked up in stranger’s yard?! For me, well I can honestly say that is one of the most bazaar, scariest things I’ve ever seen outside of my house.
Have you ever felt like your life was being filmed?!
What’s the crazies thing that’s happened outside of your house?
Or what was your Sunday like? Can it top mine??

Lol..Pretty much I was the guy in the car that hit someone, about 3 years ago. Scary stuff i tell you! I bawled throughout the whole ordeal and just hoped the guy i hit was fine (he was). That day was really almost ruined for me but I’m glad i get through it…it was the same reason: i did not see the stop sign! I hope everyone is fine though…and lol at your intro..feeling like your being filmed must be pretty awesome and a cue to how interesting and exciting life must be for you.
We used to live on one of the busiest streets in town… right across from the FD. The yellow blinking light for the FD often confused people when it came to the traffic light by our house. We saw so many wrecks there it was insane. I feel ya.
I am so grateful that the truck stopped where it did… in your yard… by the road. I can only imagine walking out to my yard to see something like that. Stay safe over there, Girl!
Sounds like a really fun (saracasm) afternoon. I am like you and I would have continued to try and figure out how it happened. Thank goodness the kids were not in the fron yard.
My Sunday was not as interesting as yours, but we just moved into a mixed income neighborhood few weeks ago. And on our second day here, we watchhed a Swat bust go down on one of our neighbors! Talk about first impressions. I thought for sure they were filming an episode of Cops.
Hahahaha! Are you sure they weren’t filming one?? LOL!
I’m glad yall are okay! That would scare the crap out of me.
Sometimes I think I’m being filmed too. How can so many crazy things be happening all the time? It must be a joke, right?
Wow! Thankfully you are all well! What an interesting afternoon!
Oh no, that’s crazy! Glad everyone is okay! Thankfully this has never happened near me. Too close for comfort!!
I remember a time as a kid, waking up to chaos and a truck partly through our back fence. The driver was drunk but no one was hurt and at one point he fell into the goldfish pond in our yard. That part was kind of funny at least!
Oh wow- that is so scary! I hope everyone is okay!! And if they are, I hope your lawn didn’t suffer too much damage!
