Let me shoot you straight here. I am an okay chef. You give me a recipe and more times than not it will turn out good. Edible. But I am NOT one to just make up my own recipes willie nillie. Nope, that could result in your immediate death. Just sayin’.
However, growing up my dad ALWAYS took recipes, tweaked them, or just made up his own. He NEVER followed directions and always found a way to make recipes taste better. Why I didn’t get that gene, I have no idea. ha! Anyway, I realize a lot of blogs share recipes and while that is SO not my thing, I thought it might be a tragedy if my dad’s creations didn’t have a place to be shared, admired even, ha! He LOVES to cook and I LOVE to eat! Match made in heaven! So with that said I bring you:
One thing that I LOVE about how my dad cooks, is the fact that he usually makes his recipes with just whatever he has at the house. No need to go out and buy a bunch of crazy ingredients you’ll never use again. Nope. Just bust open the fridge and pantry and start from there!
Which brings me to last year after Thanksgiving, we of course had a TON of turkey left over. And you can only eat so much turkey, can I get an amen?! This is where my dad’s genius kicked in. He came up with the MOST AMAZING turkey recipe…just off the cuff. (hate him, ha!) Most of you might have some Turkey still leftover, or you’ll be eating more next month for Christmas, so I present to you his mouth watering Turkey Sliders!
You can make 2 versions of these…we have to at least. Because some people in our family like spicy food and some don’t. So I have the adult version (spicy) and the kids version (not spicy). Both of course are FABULOUS! This recipe makes around 24 sliders! It’s perfect for big families or get togethers!
Here’s what you’ll need:
*10C of shopped turkey (you can also use chicken)
* 24 Kings Hawaiian rolls (or any dinner rolls)
* 2T of Heinz 57
* 4T of Texas Pete (or your fav hot sauce)
* 1T minced garlic
* 1T seasoning salt
* 6 green onions
* 3 roma tomatoes
* 4oz cream cheese
* 4oz. sour cream
* 2C of shredded cheese (1C in mixture and 1C to sprinkle on top when plating)
Optional (add to taste):
* add pickles to the top
* add jalapenos to the top (I like them chopped up inside the mixture)
* add more Texas Pete or hot sauce to mixture or on top for a spicier sandwich
Chop up your turkey into small chunks.
Add all of your ingredients into a large bowl, then mix well.
Put mixture in a large skillet.
On Medium heat, stir until the turkey mixture is melted.
(about 10min)
This is what it looks like when it’s ready!
Gooey and oh so yummy!
Cut rolls in half and lightly coat insides with butter.
Then toast on a skillet, until golden brown.
Scoop your mixture onto your buns.
Then add pickles, jalapenos, or both on top.
You can also top it off with some mustard and shredded cheese!
And there you go!
Once you try this there is NO other way to eat your turkey leftovers.
Shoot, I might just need to buy some turkey or chicken just to have these babies again!
Amen!
