Don't miss out on all the fun!
If you did miss out on the big reveal and part one of the growing details post, then hop on over and get caught up!
Now for Part 2:
After our night of joking the following weeks consisted of taking four more pregnancy tests to be for sure, a lot of crying, and then silence. One week I even entered in the denial stage of dealing with this pregnancy. I told Sam that I wasn't pregnant. Nope, there really wasn't a baby.
"What about all of the tests you took?"
oh they must be wrong. It was just a fact...I wasn't pregnant. This was a mind over matter scenario, haha!
"well won't you be shocked in 9 months."
Such a loving husband. ;)
Then once we realized it was probably best to start planning for this baby because he or she was coming whether we liked it or not, we needed to use a code word. That way Sam and I could talk about anything involving the baby and not have to fear our children would hear and blab the news before we were ready. Because let's face it, no secret is safe with Ethan running around!
Sam's idea for our code word was rhinoceros.
Yes, I can see why a man would need to use such an animal to refer to his child....he feels so macho and manly because he created this being. So a word like bunny, puppy, or heaven forbid butterfly would not be tolerated.
My word, well it was rather simple. I thought of the first animal that came to mind. (why we had to choose an animal, I have no idea. We just did...sorry kid)
It was...Kangaroo.
Which if you think about it, makes a whole lot of since. A mommy kangaroo carries her baby around in a pouch on her tummy. Duh, this was obviously the right name for our little baby.
Soon everything baby related, midwife visits, etc. was referred to as kangaroo. The kids had no clue at all, hallelujah!
Then a new question plagued us; how far along was I? Martha (remember her from the last post?) hadn't been around since November, BUT I took a pregnancy test in December and it was negative. One thing I did know for sure....I was pregnant. My first visit with my midwife went a little like this,
"When was your last cycle?"
"In November, but I took a cheap dollar store pregnancy test in December and it was negative. Then in January when Martha didn't show up I decided to get an expensive test...which turned out positive."
"Haha, so you realized they cost more for a reason."
Thanks, even my midwife didn't believe the Dollar store test. Oh geez!
She then measured to see how big my uterus was and see if she could hear a heart beat. It took all of two seconds for her to tell me that the December joke-of-a-test was wrong and I was in fact 13 weeks pregnant.
Holy Smokes!
Not only was I surprised to be pregnant, but I was already out of my first trimester. Things were moving too fast! Haha!
I will tell you though, that when I heard little kangaroo's heart beat everything seemed right in the world. In that little moment there were no concerns, issues, or fears about having this baby. He or she (which let's be honest...we're having a girl) was a precious little baby. The PERFECT little addition to complete (hear that....this will be the completion to our natural born family) our not so little family.
Cut to the day we told my parents...
We scheduled a fabulous 1950's housewife photo shoot with my lovely photographer (and friend) Kelly. These pictures were supposed to be a new look for my blog...to really fit my style of hot mess writing with the fact that I am the antithesis of a 1950's housewife. Brilliant!!! But we needed to get these photos done soon...you know, since I secretly had a bun in the oven.
I wanted a fun, shocking way to spread the news and what better way to do that than with a photo? We were going to be taking the pictures at my parents' house and since they (and the photographer) didn't know about our little secret...today was the day.
Our big reveal? A cookie cake saying "We're Pregnant!" on it. What better way to bring excitement to such shocking news than with food?! And sweet food at that! Yes, we are thinkers!
Sam's parents live out of town but we wanted to tell them of our big news in a special way as well. Once the 1950's picture was ready we got on iChat with them and sent them the file to see.
It was neat to actually see their reaction even though they were a couple states away.
To make a short story, long (it's what I'm good at, ha!) I will be 17 weeks tomorrow and this baby is expected to arrive August 25th.
And that ladies and gentlemen, is the end of our story...thus far.

You crack me up. And this baby NEEDS to come on August 22nd to share a birthday with Lu. 😉
Or, the 14th to share with my sweet girl, Rachel. Love you and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Wish it were Me!!
oh. my. GOSH! You’ve got to be kidding me?! did you not feel sick at all in your first trimester? You only have a few weeks till you find out what this baby is!
this is insane! it’s kinda cool though. i’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS!!
Holy Moly! Ryan made the joke that “someone needs to take a sex ed class!”. To which I responded, “That sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me!” Your story sounds eerily similar to Isaac’s story. Except I took the test and made Ryan go look at it.
Also, I definitely had a dream that i was sitting in my doctor’s office telling her I was pregnant and that I DID NOT KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED!
I know you are shocked, but I am so excited for you! Babies are always a gift straight from Jesus!
I LOVE your story and I’m So happy and excited for you! You are a super mom and will be just the same with little kangaroo 🙂 love you!!
