I’m baaaaaaaack! I absolutely love chalkboards, and I will add a chalkboard to anything, to label jars, to cabinets, signage, anything! One of my favorite uses for a chalkboard is Family Command Centers. I have searched everything, and no matter where I search, I could not find one in the price I wanted to pay, so I figured I would make my own! A couple months back, in the process of redecorating my bedroom, I took the mirror off the dresser. It was old, and the size was awkward, causing a decorating problem! I knew, eventually, I’d come up with something to do with it, and today, today was the day! Today I would create my own Family Command Center using that ugly old mirror!
What you’ll need:
*framed mirror
*paint
*chalkboard spray paint
*galvanized buckets (2)
*ribbon
*chalkboard labels
Before you begin, make sure to thoroughly clean the glass and dust the frame!
Spray paint the mirror with the chalkboard spray paint, being careful to spray as evenly as possible. I chose to do two coats of paint to ensure a thick chalkboard!
Paint the frame with whatever paint or paint color you like. I chose to use Annie Sloan Provence. It is a chalk based paint, it was easy to use, and any mistakes that spread on to the chalkboard was easily erased with a wet paper towel!
While waiting for the paint to dry, place the chalk labels on the buckets, and label them. I chose to label mine his and her.
Once the paint has dried, you can attach the buckets to the frame with ribbon. I luckily was able to tie them to the frame and attach with a bow, but if that is not possible, it can easily be attached using a staple gun.
All that is left to do is hang up your new Family Command Center!
This project was so simple! And the best part is, the only supply I had to buy was my ribbon! But, the benefits, and the organization was well worth that $1! 😉
