Now onto the next Not-So-Glamourous Mommy Moment with my friend Julie at Simply Boles. Julie is a blogging mama who loves God, Texas A&M (poor girl), and her three boys. I think she could have a new story for me everyday…that’s how life with boys goes. haha!

Parenting is one of the greatest, and yet hardest, adventures in one’s life- or in mine at least! I am blessed to be the mother of three sons. Each of my boys is funny, creative and special in their own way and each of them have humbled me in their own way as well!
When Caleb, our oldest, was three years old I was asked to become the Children’s Director at our church. I was so excited to take on this new role, but had no idea of how much pressure that would put on my children. Suddenly, they weren’t just church kids; now, they were the Children Director’s kids. At this time, our church offered two services: a traditional service first and a contemporary service second. Another staff member and I traded off Sundays leading the Children’s sermon and I decided that letting Caleb go to the Children’s message during the first service would be a good idea. First, there were less children and second, I would be available to “watch” him more closely. So, I sent my firstborn down the isle to listen to the message while I waited in the back for him to return. The children’s message went fine and Caleb had done pretty well. Just after the prayer to close out that time, Caleb tackled one of his good friends that was sitting next to him and the two of them went rolling across the entire stage area in front of the church. In the process, they almost took out the music minister who had gotten up to start the next song. He made a joke about breaking out into a World Wide Wrestling event as the boys separated and Caleb came sprinting to the back of the auditorium. My son, the wrestler, was very famous that Sunday.
On a different Sunday, I was leading the Children’s message when I asked the kids what soap was used for. Caleb spoke very clearly into the microphone and exclaimed, “Soap is used to clean our mouth out when we say bad things.” Yeah, lovely…. (and true)!
One day some friends asked Caleb if he was strong because he had held the door open for them. He replied, “My Mommy says that I am strong willed!”. Sigh…. yep.
After two 1/2 years, my husband and I felt it was time for me to stay home with the boys and I resigned as Children’s Director. On my last Sunday, Caleb was dancing in the pew as the praise music was going (sometimes frowned upon in Baptist life) and a good friend leaned over and whispered, “Take heart, he won’t be the Children Director’s son in just a few hours!”. Yay….relief!
As crazy as the parenting journey can be- it is also one of the most rewarding and joyful experiences of your life. I love my boys and I am so thankful for all the moments I am able to share with them whether great or small!
