Bookcases.
I love them.
I love to see them filled with books, some old, some new, some flashy, some dull.
I believe they can tell a lot about a person.
For instance, with mine you can clearly tell that we have too many books, haha! And we aren’t very clean, neat, tidy people! Looks like we are a big fan of the “oh crap company is coming let’s shove stuff where we can” people!
Our bookcase is filled with Christian fiction series, Si-Fi series, Bibles, Scripts, Books on theater, parenting books (can I get an amen!), and so on. If you were to step into my house you might mistake me for an avid reader…quite the contrary. You see, I’m the weird girl who would go into a library and just stare at the books on the shelves, possibly hoping I could become smarter just by watching them. Let’s face it, only smart people went to the library and I was just a theatre gal, trying to look the part. Rarely would I ever pick up a book, but when I did, I was so excited with the idea of actually reading it and knowing what story filled the pages between my fingers…it made my heart skip a beat. Then reality set in, and some sort of A.D.D. (I’m almost certain of it, haha)…because I would never finish the book. Weeks later I would come across it on my nightstand, looking pretty and collecting dust.
There is that rare book every now and then, and when it catches my attention, and I struggle to put it down until it’s finished.
Which brings me to the books I have been reading lately. (no do not adjust your glasses, I did say books…meaning plural.) These books are flat out fabulous!
This book made me cry almost every chapter, seriously. What a woman of God! Written by Angie Smith, who happens to write a blog.
This book is so funny! I think she writes like I think…and yes, I do actually think dad. 😉
And this book. Really, Kristin Chenoweth is like my favorite person in the world. She and I could be best friends…I just know it. Kristin, call me!
What is the deal with all of these stories? For some reason they are all real. My husband tells me that I’d rather read a “How to…” manuel than read a fiction book. Sad to say, but he is probably true. Why is it that a right brained lady would rather read all the non fiction books? No clue. I just think it’s because I spend all my time being creative that when I do read I need some since of reality, haha! (that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.)
So, that brings me to my question…yes, I have a good way of turning a short story into a long one. (it’s quite the talent, if I do say so myself!)
What books grace your bookcase, or nightstand?
Which do you recommend?

I’m reading “Crazy Love” right now. It’s really great. Makes you think and check your priorities for sure.
I love fiction, though. I read a lot of Karen Kingsbury books. Earlier this year, I read “Shades of Blue” and it was so great. I read a lot, so whenever you need some suggestions, let me know. 🙂
Right now I’m reading “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer (which may have seen a summary of the first two chapters on my blog) it’s incredible and simple look at knowing God deeper than you ever thought. I just finished The Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis which was awesome (but fiction) and Children of Huren by Tolkien (a prequal to The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings)
I want to read “I will carry you”, but right now I’m reading something else but you’ll just have to wait for me to blog about it, lol.
I wanted to suggest that book to you Cher, but wanted to read it first. Cher, it is FABULOUS, and you so need to read it! And I can’t wait to hear about what you are reading!
